The next morning, when I knocked on Toni’s bedroom door, she responded with a groan.

“Come in,” called the frog in her throat. “I’m awake.”

I opened the door, letting a burst of sunlight into the room. “How are we feeling this morning?”

Her eyes opened just a smidgen. She blocked the light with her hand. “Well, I no longer feel like I’m on the high seas, so that’s an improvement.”

Considering how she’d stumbled back to the room last night; I wasn’t surprised things had been a little rocky. “You poor thing. I hope you don’t feel too bad.”

“What was in that rum punch last night?” she said, removing her hand and blinking. “I haven’t been in a state like that since…I don’t know. Maybe not since my wedding. I wasn’t too annoying, was I?”

“You were more entertaining than you were annoying. I think you sang the full soundtrack from Sound of Music, but I fell asleep around My Favorite Things.”

“Those are excellent songs.”

“There’s no denying that. And, Toni, don’t blame yourself. The rum punch from last night was pure alcohol with a few liqueurs to sweeten it up and no more than a splash of juice.”

“No kidding. I should have kept that in mind, but after half a glass, I was enjoying myself too much.”

“I’m surprised the event would serve such a potent drink. Hopefully, things didn’t get out of hand. I wonder if the breakfast buffet will include a side of headache medication.”

“I took a couple last night.” She flipped off the covers. “Do I smell coffee?”

“Yes. Coffee is made,” I said, stepping back. “When you’re up to it, I’d like to talk about our plan for today.”

“Sure. Give me ten minutes.”

While Toni used the bathroom, I looked up Green Glades Golf Course. I’d done some research and learned that Cupid Connection’s event was taking place at an inn about an hour away. Since the golf course was in the same general direction, I figured we could visit both places today.

Looking somewhat refreshed, Toni poured herself a coffee, and I filled her in on Alec and the massage oil fiasco.

“I’m sorry this is happening to you,” Toni said. “But do you really think these hallucinations are related to Alicia’s death? I mean walnut oil, massage oil? Do you think they’re clues?”

“I don’t know how they could be, but we can keep them in mind whether they're related or not. It’s just that the dream and the hallucinations started with Alicia’s death.”

“What do you think about seeing a psychic?” Toni suggested. “Maybe you can get an understanding of what’s common as far as visions go.”

She was right. I could use a mentor in all this and had to start somewhere. “That's not a bad idea. If the psychic is credible. When this is over, I’ll call Colleen and get a referral.” I added that to my to-do list. “I don’t want to get side-tracked from why we’re here since Nell is footing the bill. I looked up Cupid Connection and learned they’re hosting their event this week at Lakeview Inn.
